Ten years of rally TV!

As 2020 beckons, I’ve finished my last rally tv show voiceover of the year – and indeed the decade.

In 2009 I sat in a tent in Radnor Forest with Wayne Goldring, and between us we combined our visions for how we might reinvent Rally tv coverage, along with some talented people who ten years on we are lucky to call very good friends.

This was a vision which saw me put my own competition plans on hold (well, a man can only have so many hobbies, right?!).

Ten years later, and it feels surreal to look back. We have been on one heck of an adventure. One which has taken us to the WRC and back, and one which saw us hired to produce the official coverage for the British Rally Championship in our tenth year.

We all grew up watching the BRC on TV, and indeed many of our heroes featured in that coverage. Both on, and off the stage.

2019 also saw us cover some brand new closed road events, which collectively appear to herald a renaissance for the sport of rallying. Events like the North West Stages, the Three Shires Stages Rally and Wales’ first closed road event, Rali Bae Ceredigion.

A highlight of the year was rekindling the format and themes of the ‘Rally Report’ nighty live shows on the Roger Albert Clark Rally, including the famous studio leaderboard, (Watch this space – we have plans for that!).

One of our proudest achievements though, has to be our long standing partnership with the BTRDA; without doubt the UK’s – and possibly even the world’s best gravel rally championship.

With some further innovations to step the coverage up for next year, and and the BTRDA Rally Committee’s ambitious plan to combine the gravel and asphalt championships, you don’t need 2020 vision to appreciate that the next decade looks set to be a exciting one for the BTRDA.

It’s always important to remember that, while we came into this for the rally cars, and the iconic special stages, it’s the people that make the adventure what it is.

So as we stare down the carburettor trumpets of a new decade, I’d like to thank everyone who’s been on this adventure with me so far, reflect on those who are painfully not with us to witness this exciting new chapter, and look forward to all the new people I’ll meet in the sport in 2020.

Thanks for the support, best wishes to you and your families for Christmas 2019. 🚗🎥
